Our Trainers

Caroline Coleman

Caroline’s background is as a psychotherapist, owner of Coleman Training since 1994 and previous owner of a number of successful commercial operations.  She is an Associate with the Alzheimer’s Society and holds the prestigious Gold Award for training.

Caroline is passionate about improving the lives of people living and working with dementia and now dedicates most of her time to working within the health and social care sector.  She is a popular speaker at events and regularly talks about dementia and management issues.

Caroline lives in the New Forest and loves spending her leisure time riding or walking.

Alison Howard

Alison originally trained as a medical microbiologist at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine.  She has worked on several hand hygiene projects in developing countries and more recently become interested in food safety in the UK catering environment.   An approved tutor with the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health, Alison delivers courses at all levels in food safety, nutrition, infection control and COSHH.

Feedback from courses never fails to highlight the fact that Alison has a gift for making what could potentially be “dry” subjects interesting.  She doesn’t patronise learners by telling them how to wash their hands, but brings her subjects alive with fascinating snippets of information and real case studies.

When she’s not working, Alison loves to travel (often!), puts us all to shame with her physical fitness and is passionate about theatre. We know we won't hear from her when she’s finished working in London – she’ll be engrossed in a production somewhere in Trafalgar Square for the evening!

Graham Platts

Graham was a fire service instructor and examiner until he retired in 2010 and was responsible for delivering first aid training in the fire service to advanced level.  He has a wealth of knowledge, but what makes him stand out is that he also has practical experience of everything he teaches, so he is able to bring your course to life with his anecdotes and solutions to a range of practical issues never mentioned in the manuals!

His training is fast paced, interesting and fun. Your staff will love it. When he isn’t working, Graham enjoys relaxing on the golf course and is an accomplished poker player. PS Our hunky fireman loves the ballet and opera! (don’t tell him we told you)

Juli Richards

Juli originally qualified as an SEN and worked at Southampton General Hospital for many years before entering the social care industry.  She has extensive experience in a variety of care settings, including dementia care units.

Juli nursed her mother with dementia for eight years and her very personal experiences bring a deep understanding of how dementia affects the whole family.

When Juli isn’t delivering training, she runs the Stagecoach Theatre Arts School in Havant on a part time basis.  Juli has been involved with Stagecoach since 1998 and her outgoing personality and sense of theatre has delighted and inspired learners both there and here at Coleman Training.

Juli is passionate about activity based care and works hard to help learners to see beyond task driven practices.  “Activity isn’t something that should happen at fixed times, it should be happening all day, every day for everyone.   It only takes a few seconds to make a big difference to a person’s life.  Surely we can find time for that?”

Phil Hart

Phil is a qualified counsellor and former manager of a registered care home specialising in supporting people struggling with addictions.

Phil has extensive management experience and is a natural communicator.  He is the author of “Complaint Handling Made Easy”, a valuable tool for anyone who is on the receiving end of customer complaints.

Phil delivers our moving and handling training – probably because he’s not good at sitting still for long!  Staff enjoy his sessions because they are immensely practical, relevant and delivered with real energy and passion.

When he’s not working, Phil likes to paint (the artistic type), listen to live music and loves very long walks in the local forest.
