Course Outline


There are over 850,000 people currently living with dementia in the UK.  Two thirds of people who have dementia live in the community, while one third live in a care home.  This means that we are highly likely to have contact with people living with dementia, whether it is in our work capacity,  a family member or simply when going about our lives.

This course is suitable for anyone with a desire to learn more about dementia. The course is designed as an introduction to the topic of dementia and so no pre-requisite training or knowledge is required.

On completion delegates will be able to:


  • Recognise that each person will have a unique experience of dementia
  • Describe what dementia is and what isn’t dementia
  • Recognise the common symptoms of dementia
  • Understand how memory is affected by dementia
  • Engage and communicate more effectively with a person with dementia
  • Understand that it is possible to live well with dementia
