Become a trainer

Why become a dementia trainer?

There are over 850,000 people living with dementia in the UK.  This figure is expected to rise to over a million by 2025.  In recognition of these statistics, a number of government initiatives have been introduced to improve the care and support of people with dementia, including the requirement for specialist training for care homes and hospitals.

These requirements mean that the industry urgently needs more specialist dementia trainers to deliver training to local care homes, hospitals, dental surgeries, GP surgeries, emergency services, day centres and many more potential clients.

Coleman Training has been delivering dementia training either directly and through the Alzheimer’s Society since 1994.  We are experts in our field and want to share that expertise with suitable candidates through the Dementia Training Academy.  Upon successful completion of the course you will receive everything you need to set up your own dementia training business, (see below).

Am I suitable?

Experience has shown us that this course is likely to be suited to a person who meets the first requirement plus one or more of the following attributes:

  • Has experienced dementia in some capacity – either a family member, friend, or professionally
  • Has a background in health and social care
  • Is an experienced trainer
  • Likes supporting and mentoring others
  • Has a confident, positive and upbeat personality

How long does it take?

Your initial training will be three days if you have a training background or five days plus home study if you are new to training. After your initial training you will receive on-going support and the opportunity to increase your portfolio and training qualifications by attending additional courses.
