Course Outline
Our Medication Management (with PEG) course equips you with the knowledge and skills for safe and effective medication administration. The course will explore the legal landscape, policies, and procedures related to medication administration and learn about your responsibilities while promoting independence.
The course covers key principles for safe administration through various routes, including patches, creams, and inhalers. You will learn how to use Medication Administration Record sheets and by the end of the course, you will be confident in administering medications while adhering to legal and ethical standards.
Medication Management (with PEG) learning outcomes:
- Describe the legislation, policy and procedures relating to medication administration
- Understand your own responsibilities in line with your role and competencies
- Promote independence by supporting a person to look after their own medication when possible
- Identify different types of medication and what they are used for
- Describe the key principles to safe administration of medication
- Understand the different routes of administration
- Prepare for medicine administration
- Follow the correct procedures set to ensure safe administration of medication, including patches, creams, liquids, eye drops and inhalers
- Correctly use a Medication Administration Record (MAR) sheet
- Respond appropriately to allergic reactions to medication
- Understand the importance of confidentiality and security in all procedures of drug administering.
PEG learning outcomes:
- Understand the principles of delivering medication via PEG.
- Understand the essential information and preparation required prior to administering medication via PEG.
- Understand the essential information for administering medication via PEG (this is not a competency assessment).
- Understanding how to report and record, focusing on how this is different.
- Understand some considerations with this form of medication administration.
